Hip Fracture

Fractures around the hip are common in elderly people with osteoporosis. This may also happen in younger people in high energy trauma. Hip fractures treated non operatively usually have poor outcomes. The philosophy in recent decades is to get the patient back to routine activities as early as possible.

The treatment usually is fixation of the fracture in young individuals to hip replacement surgeries in elderly. Final treatment plan is made as per the nature of the fracture pattern the assessment of chances of healing of the fracture.

Most hip fractures occur in one of two locations either the femoral neck or intertrochanteric region.
